"Let's Go
Dutch"
International House 2004 Gala
On Saturday, October 30, 2004, over 340 people celebrated
The Netherlands at the 16th annual International House benefit
gala: “Let’s Go Dutch!” This eagerly anticipated
event was held at the luxurious Westin Hotel and included
a cocktail reception, silent auction, a full-course dinner
featuring authentic Dutch cuisine, a live auction and dancing.
Our MC, Larry Sprinkle, and auctioneer, Ernest Perry, are
to be commended for keeping the live auction “lively”
as they encouraged the audience to bid on items that included
everything from foreign travel and elegant jewelry to gourmet
dining and pro sports collectables. All proceeds from the
gala are used to support the programs and services of International
House. Our sincere thanks go out to the Gala Committee,
International House Board of Directors, staff and volunteers
who contributed so many hours to make this event such a
success!

| Friendship Force Charlotte meets Tuesday,
December 14 at 6:30 PM at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church, 3016
Providence Road, Charlotte. Reservations required for dinner,
$16.00 paid in advance.
Information will be presented on outgoing exchanges to Verel,
Germany and Albuquerque, New Mexico and incoming exchanges
scheduled from Olympia, Washington and La Serena, Chile. Friendship
Force is a non-profit cultural exchange program. Membership
is open to all who are interested in promoting peace and international
understanding thought the world.

| International House and Carolinas
Concert Association (CCA) are partnering to enhance
Charlotte's cultural experience. CCA was the first organization
in Charlotte to present a performing arts series and has proudly
sponsored such internationally renowned artists as violinist
Itzhak Perlman, the Vienna Boys Choir, and the New York Philharmonic
Orchestra, among others. Carolinas Concert Association provides
educational opportunities for students to encourage an understanding
of and appreciation for the arts. For more information on Carolinas

It is comforting to know that in a year of divisive politics,
and a difficult international atmosphere, we have an institution
such as International House as a resource to the local community.
Our organization brings together the many positive aspects of the
United States and the cultures of the world around us; a key piece
of creating a Charlotte community that understands, values and celebrates
our differences and similarities.
In this newsletter, you will find a list of volunteers that made
it possible for us to fulfill our mission this year. You will see
names from every possible background, ethnicity or culture that
makes up our increasingly diverse community. If you think of how
many lives each and everyone of these individuals have touched this
year, you can begin to understand the impact of International House
in our community.
