Just 4 Students Left to Host!
On Sunday, August 13, 2017, International House welcoming a youth delegation of 14 participants from Iraq as part of the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) to learn about youth activism and leadership. We are looking for individuals and families to welcome these rising international leaders into their homes, serve as cultural ambassadors in the evenings and weekends, assist with transportation on the weekdays including drop-offs around 9:00 am and pick-ups around 5:00 pm (carpools can be arranged) as well as provide breakfast and dinner. A Home Host Orientation will be arranged prior to your teen’s arrival.
What is life like in Iraq for a teenager? What do Iraqi teens think about Americans – before and after their stay here? What are typical Iraqi customs at home and school?
Get answers to these questions and many more by hosting a youth from Iraq for a week or two in August. These teens are leaders in their communities and schools and have been selected to come to America to learn about leadership and civic engagement. Equally important, they will learn about American life, from you, their gracious host families.
In exchange, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about another country and culture, without leaving home. You’ll gain a son or daughter, a sister or brother, a friend for life by opening your home for a short time to welcome a special teenager.
Many of our former home hosts and guests have remained friends, stayed in touch using Skype or FaceTime, and even visited each other again. The Iraqi teen delegation will be in Charlotte from August 13 – 27.
Please join this special group of International House volunteers!
