The Rising Readers program helps prevent summer reading and learning loss for approximately 300-400 rising first through third-grade students in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) who have been identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP). Each Rising Reader classroom will have a lead teacher and at least two tutors that help implement the curriculum, provide literacy instruction, facilitate small group activities, monitor student progress, and evaluate whole-child performance to determine student achievement. When: June 22, 2020 - July 31, 2020 Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 3:00pm Partner Schools: Briarwood Academy Newell Elementary Winterfield Elementary Merry Oaks Academy Necessary qualifications: 
  • Current teachers or students seeking a degree in Education 
  • Desire to work with English Language Learners to improve their English proficiency 
  • Background in literacy, educational theory, and practical application 
  • Prior experience working with children  
  • Flexibility and patience
