International House promotes international understanding and helps immigrants integrate fully into our community. We envision a Charlotte that welcomes the world.

International House was established in 1981 to be a symbol of tolerance, understanding, and compassion to the international community. The organization was opened to be a cultural center that provided people with the opportunities to learn, share, experience, and understand our neighbors, to make lasting connections and friendships. This year we celebrate 40 years of being a place that the community no matter race, creed, or culture can find caring and passionate individuals to help them on their journey whether that journey be a better life for them and their families or a greater international understanding.

For our 40th anniversary, and in response to the devastating impact of Covid-19 on the immigrant and arts communities, International House presents, The Journey: Art Competition and Exhibit.

We are inviting immigrant artists to submit an art piece that represents their journey to the United States, allowing the community to see their story and take a step in their shoes.

Ten of the artists will be chosen to participate in an exhibit hosted by Charlotte Art League where the public will vote by donating on their favorite piece. The winning artist of this exhibit and competition will be given a $4000 stipend and the opportunity to have their artwork showcased at International House.

Submissions open on April 12th.
