​Each of our 3 schools is expecting 100 student participants. Each school will have 4 classes with approximately 25 students per class, led by 2 teachers.

This summer, students will be practicing reading, writing, listening, and speaking with the following themes:

• My Home, My Community (celebrating community, culture, World Cup)

• It's a Wild World (Habitat Study: Plants/Animals)

• We Can Solve It! Invention Convention

• Let's Share a Story! Fairytales and Folktales

Students will be learning and applying vocabulary from each of these themes when it comes to reading passages and comprehension activities. In the afternoon, students will work together and show their creativity making models of a community or neighborhoods, having a Market Day simulation, creating shoebox dioramas of habitats to go along with their plant and animal research.

Each week students have a Field Day with outdoor games including water balloons, relays, and crafts.

This year we are excited to bring back Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for a bilingual story time! We hope to also have local, multicultural authors share their stories with our multilingual students.  

We would like to invite your support in the following ways:

Adopt a School with the following items: ​​​​​​​​​​​​

• 100 notebooks

• 100 2-pocket folders

• 100 packs of crayons

• 100 packs of markers

• 100 packs of colored pencils

• 100 gluesticks

• 8 bottles of Elmer's liquid glue

• Watercolor paint sets 

• 2 packs of assorted colors of construction paper in bulk

• 4 bottles of hand sanitizer

• 5 reams of printer paper

• 1 pack of assorted candy (no peanuts)

• 1 24 pack of paper towels

• 12 packs of Clorox Wipes​

• ​1 12 pack of Kleenex

• Set of individual white board slates for student use with dry-erase markers + erasers

• 2 packs of assorted craft supplies (buttons, pom poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, feathers, foam shapes and stickers, etc.)

• Assorted sizes of Ziploc bags (gallon, quart, sandwich)

• 100 Juice Pops/Popsicles per week for Field Day afternoons

• 100 individually wrapped snack packs per week for Movie Monday afternoons (chips, cookies, crackers, etc. NO PEANUTS)

• 100 juice boxes per week for Movie Monday afternoons

• 100 water bottles per week 

Sign up to volunteer and help organize purchased materials for each of our 12 classes between June 1-June 11. This service opportunity will take place at our office in collaboration with our Youth and Family Education Manager. Questions? Please e-mail info@ihclt.org.
