Open Position: Rising Readers 2022 Literacy and Enrichment Tutor (Full-Day)

Job Description:
In partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Rising Readers focuses on preventing summer reading and learning loss for approximately 400 rising first through third-grade students who have been identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP). The Rising Readers Full Day Literacy Tutor is responsible for assisting the lead teacher in helping our rising 1st - 3rd grader English Language Learners increase their fundamental literacy skills through the use of the provided A2i curriculum.
Time Commitment:
- Monday through Thursday, June 20th to August 4th (8:30am-3:30pm)
- One week break from July 4th - July 8th
- Tutor Orientation and Training
- 3 hours, June 16th (time TBD)
Qualifications:
- Current Instructional Assistants or students seeking a degree in a subject related to Education
- Desire to work with elementary-age English Language Learners to improve their English proficiency
- Background in literacy, educational theory, and practical application
- Prior experience working with children
- Flexibility and patience
- Cultural competence
Tutor Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Communicate with your assigned Lead Teacher to establish summer goals
- Facilitate group activities as instructed by the Lead Teacher, monitor student progress, and evaluate whole-child performance to determine student achievement
- They also Assist Lead Tutor with assessing students and creating lesson plans by navigating on the A2i Afterschool online platform
- Lead a small group of 5 students in targeted tutoring for 8 hours/week
- Attend and participate in orientation and curriculum training
- Substitute for Lead Teacher in the case of their absence
- Communicate upcoming absences with your Lead Teacher and Site Coordinator with as much advanced notice as possible
Compensation and Benefits
- $3,000 stipend (Paid in 2 installments)
- $500 bonus available at end of program, based on attendance, student retention and performance
- Allowed up to one absence without penalty – any further absences will result in a deduction of payment
